Compare and Contrast Essays
“Traditional or online shopping”
writer : Leonisa
Shopping is an activity in which a customer browses the available
goods or services presented by one or more retailers with the intent to
purchase a suitable selection of them (Shrestha, 2020). Almost all of the
people in the world has done (Gore,2013)this activities.in the past ,there was
only Traditional Shopping .but ,as time goes by until Nowadays with rapid
development of advanced internet technology as well as the Globalization in
this modern era ,There are two ways of shopping .traditional and online
shopping .Traditional shopping is the activity of visiting a shop and making
purchases while online shopping is the activity of purchasing goods and
services over the internet (Hasa, 2020).both of them have similarities and
differences .so ,in this essay we are going to talk about differences and
similarities in traditional and offline shopping
The first differences is Authenticity.to make the products looks interesting to customers ,the advertisement of online shopping stores tend to exaggerate the facts of the product (yang, 2014). due to in online shopping customers don’t have chance to physically see or touch the items they order and there is no face-to-face communication (Hasa, 2020).that’s why in online shopping there are big possibilities of retailers deceive the customers from the fake advertisements.by Contrast ,most traditional stores have no possibilities and guts to do so.it is because traditional shopping allows customers face-to-face communication with retailers and in real stores must display the products in front of the customers in order to let them actually able to touch and feel the products they are buying before make the payment (yang, 2014).moreover, customers can also take the items home on the same day.
The second differences is online
shopping tends to be more convenient as the customers can shop anywhere and
anytime with no boundaries between region or countries (Hasa, 2020). customers
can save their times efficiently .the customers can easily visit a specific
website or application in the (yang,
2014).internet then find the product wait for the product being delivered
.There are a lot payment methods like using your creditor debit card, and even
you can pay it when the product delivered to your address ( Cash on Delivery)
.by contrast ,shopping in real store are too time consuming if the customers
haven’t made the decision of what to buy and less convenient for people who
live far away from the store (Hasa, 2020)
The last difference between online shopping and traditional shopping is safety issue. Online shopping is not always safe ,there is risk of online frauds and online security issues .its quite hard for customers that buy stuff online to avoid exposing personal data and credit card information while traditional shopping is comparatively safer in traditional stores the customers don’t have to worry, No personal data will be exposed because customers can pay directly to the retailer (yang, 2014).Besides differences which gets in traditional and online shopping .it also has many similarities between traditional shopping and online shopping .lets looking many similarities both of them.
There are similarities from traditional and online shopping.such as the
purpose, the store, and to attract the customers.first of all these two ways of
shopping has the common purposes or goal, which is buying and selling things or
products (Shrestha, 2020).The Second
similarity is stores .both traditional and online stores offers a great variety
of stores to choose the products (Gore, 2013). the third is to reach and attract
maximum numbers of customers to increase the sells through the attractive
interaction and presentation and also display of the products (Shrestha, 2020)
In conclusion,
both of traditional shopping and online shopping have advantages and disadvantages in every
Similarities and Differences to customers. The benefits of both shopping online
and shopping in real stores are countless
(yang, 2014).Customers may choose one over the other depending on what
types of goods are needed (Hasa, 2020). Online shopping which is very
convenient as customers can shop anytime, anywhere or traditional shopping can
be timeconsuming, but allows customers to actually see and touch the
products

Compare and Contrast: Online
Shopping vs. Traditional Shopping
Historically, traditional
shopping practices dominated the field of selling and purchasing goods and
services. If anyone needed to buy a new pair of shoes, a new dress, or even a
new house appliance, they would go to the market, or visit a dedicated store,
to make a purchase. While a rewarding experience, it was time-consuming as well
as region-locked, with customers from rural areas having to travel great
distances to purchase even the most basic of goods (Markham, 2016). Smaller companies,
incapable of exporting their items abroad, were naturally oriented towards
domestic clients. The 21st century saw the development of the Internet as well
as the globalization of the supply chain, enabling sellers and customers to
engage in online shopping from the comfort of their homes (Markham, 2016).
Although the two premises share some basic traits attributed to shopping, the
processes are inherently different one from another, making them suited for
different types of purchase.
Comparison Point:
Costs
Traditional shopping is
associated with a plethora of costs for the sellers as well as for the clients.
A brick-and-mortar store would need to be built or placed inside of an existing
structure, which is expensive. Warehousing and regular supplying also add to
the costs of operation and maintenance. Finally, traditional stores have to
afford to pay shopkeepers, consultants, janitors, and other support personnel.
All of these expenditures increase the costs of final purchase for the end
customer (Markham, 2016). Online shops do not have to face such issues. The
only costs they have to endure are warehousing and good transportation from the
seller to client, without having to worry about structural maintenance, paying
sellers and supports, and dealing with numerous other issues that
brick-and-mortar shops face (Markham, 2016). Because of these factors, buying
online is typically much cheaper than doing so in a store.
Comparison Point:
Immediacy
One strong advantage
traditional shopping has over online purchasing is the immediacy of purchase.
The client can buy the item or service they need from a retailer and use it
immediately, without any lag or waiting time (Markham, 2016). Online shopping,
due to the nature of their business model, cannot offer the same. Usually it
takes between one day to several months before the product reaches the end
customer, the conditions depending on where is it purchased from and what
company is handling the deliveries (Markham, 2016). Such waiting times can be
too much for some customers to accept, as the items they need are often
required immediately. An example of products that require immediacy include
foodstuffs that have short shelf lives. Although online purchasing of foods
exists, it is dominated by cooked food deliveries, whereas most customers buy
their food products from traditional shops.
Comparison Point: Tangibility
Another strong suit of
traditional marketing is the ability to see and feel the item a person is
buying. In case with clothes, the customer can try it on to see if it fits
their body complexion. Online marketing cannot offer such an advantage, and has
to rely on pictures, videos, and numbers in order to accurately describe the
sizes of a good or an item. While in most cases it is enough to commit to a
purchase, other times it becomes a significant obstacle, especially in cases
where the appearance of a delivered item is significantly different than that
on the picture. Clothes industry remains largely dominated by traditional
marketing for those very reasons (Markham, 2016). In comparison, over a third
of all clothing items being sold online is returned to the seller or exchanged
for a different item due to a mismatch of some kind (Markham, 2016). At the
same time, tangibility plays less of a factor when purchasing items that do not
need to be held or felt to ensure quality. Electronics purchases are often done
online due to price range differences.
Comparison Point: Convenience
Traditional shopping is a time-consuming process. Even the simplest purchases require leaving the house, traveling back and forth, and spending time selecting goods, paying for them, and bringing them home (Markham, 2016). A simple run to the store for groceries can take a whole hour. More significant purchases might take an entire day. In some countries, like the US, the lack of a personal vehicle is a significant obstacle, especially to the poor, who find it hard to reach the nearest Walmart. Online shopping is much more convenient, as the purchase can be achieved from the comfort of one’s own home, with the goods delivered to the client’s doorstep (Markham, 2016). The time spent waiting for the delivery can be focused on other tasks, especially when said delivery is not required to be urgent.
Conclusions
Traditional and online shopping
offer their own distinctive sets of pros and cons when it comes to purchasing
goods. Brick-and-mortar shops offer immediacy, tangibility, and the “true
spirit of shopping, whereas convenience and cheapness are the primary selling
points for online marketing. Depending on what types of goods are needed,
customers may choose one over the other. It is unlikely for either one to
replace the other in full, thus ensuring the harmonious coexistence of both
types of shopping.

eCommerce and Traditional
Commerce: The Two Different Trade World
October 30, 2020 Nilima Shrestha
Similarly, eCommerce is the
digital buying and selling of products and services through the use of the
internet. The customers don’t need to physically visit the store for choosing
and buying the goods. All they need to do is to surf the internet and order
online. The goods and services are then delivered to the customer’s desired
place. eCommerce is the modification of traditional commerce.
Similarities between eCommerce
and Traditional Commerce
-
Both types of commerce have the common goal of buying
and selling goods and services. No matter what the medium of trade is, the
common aim is to sell various products to customers.
-
The main motive of eCommerce as well as traditional
commerce is to reach and attract maximum numbers of customers to increase the
sells.
-
All the transactions done in these two types of
commerce are monetary. The monetary benefit is the major priority.
-
Both of these attract the customers through the
attractive presentation and display of the products. Traditional stores display
the product in the store in an attractive way. Similarly, eCommercial platforms
display high-quality photos and videos.

The Similarities Between Shopping
Online & in the Mall
By Allie Gore

-
Stores
Like the mall, online shopping
offers a great variety of stores to choose from. Almost any store you would
typically find in a mall will have a corresponding online store featuring the
same items. From department stores to specialty stores, most retailers can be
found with a quick Internet search.
-
Selection
Like the shopping mall, the
online shopping experience offers a large selection of items to choose from. If
you are looking for a dresses, a simple search can yield thousands of dresses
in a variety of styles, shapes, sizes and colors. Like going to a specialized
department in a store, the search criteria can be narrowed to show the most
relevant results such as "cocktail dresses" or
"sundresses."
-
Deals and Sales
Most retailers offer the same
deals available in store on their website. Like the mall, online stores will
typically have seasonal and end-of-season sales, sometimes featuring extra
incentives such as free shipping for online shoppers. The retailer's site will
often reflect any seasonal promotions available in-store and allow customers to
redeem coupons and gift cards. Sales and promotions will typically start and
end on the same dates both in-store and online.
-
Interactive Experience
Both shopping online and in the
mall can be an interactive experience. With enhanced features on many retailer
websites, shoppers are able to see what an item would look like in a different
color, in a different size, or send a link to a friend to get feedback. The
online store for Victoria's Secret, for instance, allows shoppers to click on
color swatches to change the color of an item and click through alternate views
to determine the exact fit and shape.

Traditional Shopping or Online
Shopping?

Say You Say
Coco Yang
The first difference between online
shopping and traditional shopping is authenticity. To make an appealing
advertisement of products, some online shopping stores tend to exaggerate the
facts of the products. By contrast, most traditional stores have no guts to do
so. It is because real stores must display the products in front of customers
in order to let them touch and feel the products. For example, when a potential
customer steps into the store with the purpose of buying a real iPhone 5S,
which is a very well-known electric product, the seller dare not sell the fake
one because iPhone 5S is so popular that everyone knows what the real iPhone 5S
is like. To sum up, the advantage of buying things in the real stores is the
products speak for themselves and the disadvantage of buying things online is
the products may or may not be authentic.
The second difference between online
shopping and traditional shopping is convenience. Shopping online reduces
limitations. It is so convenient that you can shop anytime and anywhere. For
example, you can easily visit the website, find the product you want to buy and
wait for the product being delivered to you. If you need time to reconsider
about the products, all you have to do is put the product in the virtual
shopping bag or on the virtual wish list. Usually, you have topay additional
shipping costs while shopping online. By contrast, real store shopping is not convenient
for people who live far away from stores. Real store shopping istoo time
consuming for customers to drive to the stores. In other words, shopping online
is more convenient than shopping in traditional stores. But, there are
consumers who exist beyond the rosy glow of the department stores—those who
have no cars, no access to the Internet, and who live in a cash economy, whose
shopping budgets are too small to qualify for shipment costs, and who need
their local shops for social contact and face-to-face communication. For those
kinds of customers, it is more convenient to shop nearby than online stores so
that they can pay and get the products immediately.
The last difference between online
shopping and traditional shopping is the safety issue. Online shopping is not
always safe. To make an order online, you have to expose personal data and
credit card information. Some bad people can access personal information easily
through online transaction andsteal it for unauthorized deals. That is to say,
it is quite hard for consumers that buy stuff online to avoid exposing personal
data. However, people don’t have to worry aboutthings like that while shopping
on the street. No personal data will be exposed because customers can pay
directly to the seller by cash or by credit cards. But people who shop in the
traditional store have to worry whether the sellers give them counterfeit as
change. In fact, it is a small safety issue that can be avoided by being
careful while making transactions in traditional stores.
